Meet the fabulous ladies of the Howard University Women’s Swimming and Diving Team!!

Black Kids Swim was excited to meet several members from the Howard University Women’s Swimming and Diving Team during the 30th Annual Black History Invitational Swim Meet. The ladies were kind enough to share their love of swimming, lots of hair care advice, and tips on being a successful student athelete.

The full interview below captures the team members discussing why they began swimming, how they were treated as Black women excelling in a traditionally white sport, how they maintain their hair, and their hopes for the future of women’s swimming.

Following the interview, these amazing women offered words of encouragement to young swimmers.

Thank you to the Lady Bisons! For now, they are the only Historically Black College or University (HBCU) women’s swim team. We will continue cheering for them and all Black Kids who swim. Together we can Change The Tide and return women’s competitive swimming to more HBCU’s!
