Black Kids Swim Olympic Countdown – Holly Spears
This month the U.S. Olympic Swim team will make history when two African American women compete on the team for the first time. For our 9th day of the Black Kids Swim Olympic Countdown, we highlight another African American woman who excels in the sport of swimming. Holly Spears.
Holly is a rising Junior at Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana. In her Freshman year she set a record at the National Black Heritage Championship swim meet (NBHCSM) in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly and the 200IM. She won the Moore-Boone award for her 200 IM at the NBHCSM in 2015 and 2016. As a sophomore, Holly placed eighth in the 100 free at the Big Ten Championships.
We look forward to watching Holly swim during her last 2 years at IU and hope to see her in the 2020 Olympics!
